Artist's Statement:

I currently draw inspiration from the magnificent gold filigree jewelry displayed in The Ancient World collection at the Boston Museum of Fine Art. Composed of incredibly delicate wire forms, this work created a rich textural composition that drew me in. The exceptional craftsmanship immediately intrigued me and led me to wonder how people could make such finely detailed work without modern tools and materials. As I explored the technical aspects of this archaic filigree I began to imagine how humanity might employ this 2500-year-old skill 1000 years in the future. The resulting body of work is inspired by my fascination with deep space and love of fantastical, science fiction characters. Using my own interpretation of silver filigree, and incorporating gemstones and geometric forms, I aimed to create elegant jewelry that would be equally at home at an art gala or on the bridge of a starship.
